TKAM: Week 2: Question A

Why is fearlessness so important to these kids?  Is it still today?  (chapter 4; see page 50)

  1. I think they just like to think they're trying to prove something to the other kids, or to intimidate them. Also, many younger kids have a tendency to think they can do anything they want on their own. They think they are indepepndent, when in reality they rely upon their parents to do things for them.
Having a younger brother, I know there are many things he thinks he can do, but he really can't and I seem to be the only one to know this.

  2. I feel like fearlessness is so important to these kids because I believe they are trying to prove something. They are proving independence and strength. It is definitely still this way today. Everyday I see little kids trying things, saying things, and doing things that I would have never thought of when I was younger. While on one end of the spectrum we have these fearless kids on the other end we have kids that act as if they are fearless, but in reality they are scared of their own shadows.

    1. I agree with Madason because the kids are trying to prove something and they are more independent and they have strenght. I also agree with her that you still see kids trying to do things that we wouldnt have done when we were kids.--Alondra

    2. I think the children are fearless because of the lack of experiences and knowledge. The older you get the wiser you are due to experiences you have had. I also think that this still happens today because of how children take more risks than an elder would.

    3. I agree with Madason. I feel the kids are trying to be more independent and show their strength. At this day and age most kids need to show their toughness because life is getting rougher and more people are becoming fearless. Kids can't act like a weakling anymore. At some point in their lives everyone is fearless.

  3. I feel that it is important because they think they are grown up enuff to do things on there own and be independent when they do things. I also feel that today you see it sometimes. Like with little kids that are trying to grow up to fast. But thats not with all kids some kids dont try to do that .

  4. Well I think fearlessness is important to them because they are more independent. I think that some kids today are also fearless because some are more independent than others and some are taught to be fearless and thats how some kids are raised to be like. --Alondra

  5. I feel fearlessness is very important to these kids because they are trying to be themselves. The kids are trying to be independent and stand up for each other. Fearlessness is part of their personalities. It is also still important today. Many kids are growing up faster and want to do things on their own, when in reality they need their parent's help and it turns into chaos. Some kids are also outgoing so it is naturally apart of them to be fearless.

    1. I agree with Cortney because I feel like the children in the book always think they have something/and or someone to prove right or wrong. It's like they want to stand out or make a bold statement, they want to be noticed. In some ways it's actually working out for them. Children these days also probably feel this way because in this generation nothing is ever good enough. So, eventually they have to step out of his or her comfort zone and be fearless when it comes to certain situations.

    2. I agree with both Cortney and McKenzie. I think that since Scout is always hanging out with guys she feels like she has to show fearlessness or else she won't fit in. However, sometimes Scout and Jem pretend to show fearlessness to hide what they're really feeling; they're afraid to show weakness. In this generation there are people that are extremely fearless and will say and do whatever comes to their mind, then there are also people who prefer to stand back in the shadows and not really be seen. Either way everyone is fearless at some point in their life.

    3. I agree with Courtney. I think that its truthful to say that fearlessness is built into kids character. I also agree with Sophie that everyone has been fearless in there life. I also believe that the amount of fearlessness in kids has to do with their upbringing. Some kids are braver than others and are willing to take greater risks. These kids are in my mind the ones who are going to either make or break themselves with their fearlessness. They will either make a difference for the better of the world or end up being the trouble makers.

  6. I think they want to prove to eachother that their brave. that when dill gave jem that bet he didnt want to seem to have fear. i think that they just want people to look highly towards them. i think it depends on the person today and the thing your afraid of. like spiders or clowns i show fear towards those sort of things. So it just depends; people have to seem fearless in some situations though.-Kellie Castillo
