I think that the snowman scene was included to remind the reader that the story is mainly about two young kids that just want to have fun. Also, to bring back the lighthearted mood to the story after all the heavy story about Atticus' trial. I think the fire scene was a kind of renewal as well.
I agree with you Nathan! Yeah this story seems almost to serious to be about to kids. But then again the story is being told by Scout when she is older.
